God, in the
Easter mystery you established a new covenant of
reconciliation: Grant that all who have been reborn into the

what they profess by their faith. We ask this with

A reading
from the Book
of Genesis 8:6-16; 9:8-16
At the end of forty days Noah opened the
window of the ark that he had made and sent out the raven;
and it went to and fro until the waters were dried up from
the earth. Then he sent out the dove from him, to see if the
waters had subsided from the face of the ground; but the
dove found no place to set its foot, and it returned to him
to the ark, for the waters were still on the face of the
whole earth. So he put out his hand and took it and brought
it into the ark with him. He waited another seven days, and
again he sent out the dove from the ark; and the dove came
back to him in the evening, and there in its beak was a
freshly plucked olive leaf; so Noah knew that the waters had
subsided from the earth. Then he waited another seven days,
and sent out the dove; and it did not return to him any
more.
In the six hundred first year, in
the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were
dried up from the earth; and Noah removed the covering of
the ark, and looked, and saw that the face of the ground was
drying. In the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of
the month, the earth was dry.
Then God said to Noah, "Go out of
the ark, you and your wife, and your sons and your sons'
wives with you.
Then God said to Noah and to his
sons with him, "As for me, I am establishing my covenant
with you and your descendants after you, and with every
living creature that is with you, the birds, the domestic
animals, and every animal of the earth with you, as many as
came out of the ark. I establish my covenant with you, that
never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of a
flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the
earth."
God said, "This is the sign of the
covenant that I make between me and you and every living
creature that is with you, for all future generations: I
have set my bow in the clouds, and it shall be a sign of the
covenant between me and the earth. When I bring clouds over
the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, I will remember
my covenant that is between me and you and every living
creature of all flesh; and the waters shall never again
become a flood to destroy all flesh. When the bow is in the
clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant
between God and every living creature of all flesh that is
on the earth."

Psalm 111
Confitebor tibi
Hallelujah!
I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart,
in the assembly of the upright, in the congregation.
Great are the deeds of the
LORD!
they are studied by all who delight in them.
His work is full of majesty and
splendor,
and his righteousness endures for ever.
He makes his marvelous works to be
remembered;
the LORD is gracious and full of compassion.
He gives food to those who fear
him;
he is ever mindful of his covenant.
He has shown his people the power
of his works
in giving them the lands of the nations.
The works of his hands are
faithfulness and justice;
all his commandments are sure.
They stand fast for ever and
ever,
because they are done in truth and equity.
He sent redemption to his
people;
he commanded his covenant for ever;
holy and awesome is his Name.
The fear of the LORD is the
beginning of wisdom;
those who act accordingly have a good understanding;
his praise endures for ever.

A reading
from
Peter's First Letter 1:3-9
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord
Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he has given us a new birth
into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ
from the dead, and into an inheritance that is imperishable,
undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who are
being protected by the power of God through faith for a
salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you
rejoice, even if now for a little while you have had to
suffer various trials, so that the genuineness of your
faith-- being more precious than gold that, though
perishable, is tested by fire-- may be found to result in
praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
Although you have not seen him, you love him; and even
though you do not see him now, you believe in him and
rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, for you are
receiving the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your
souls.

The
Gospel According to
John 20:19-31
When it was evening on that day, the first
day of the week, and the doors of the house where the
disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus
came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you."
After he said this, he showed them
his hands and his side.
Then the disciples rejoiced when
they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with
you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you."
When he had said this, he breathed
on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you
forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you
retain the sins of any, they are retained."
But Thomas (who was called the
Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.
So the other disciples told him,
"We have seen the Lord."
But he said to them, "Unless I see
the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the
mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not
believe."
A week later his disciples were
again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the
doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said,
"Peace be with you."
Then he said to Thomas, "Put your
finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it
in my side. Do not doubt but believe."
Thomas answered him, "My Lord and
my God!"
Jesus said to him, "Have you
believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who
have not seen and yet have come to believe."
Now Jesus did many other signs in
the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this
book. But these are written so that you may come to believe
that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through
believing you may have life in his name.

Comments
on the Readings
The Diocese of Montreal offers an
attractive and useful guide to the lectionary readings.
Because it comes from of the Anglican Church of Canada which
follows the Revised Common Lectionary, the readings
sometimes may vary from those of the Episcopal Church, but
it is still helpful.
