Travel
and Transportation About Transportation and Transit Secaucus residents and visitors enjoy exceptional transportation advantages. Hundreds ride buses and trains into Manhattan daily for work and pleasure. For most, travel time is actually less than New York City residents, living in the outer boroughs. Express buses bring travelers from Secaucus to the Port Authority Bus Terminal, near Times Square, in approximately 20 minutes. Trains from Secaucus Junction reach Penn Station New York in 9 minutes and Hoboken in 10 minutes. You may change to a PATH train to lower Manhattan in Hoboken. All northern New Jersey NJ Transit rail lines and Amtrak stop at Secaucus Junction Access to Secaucus Junction rail station is by taxi, or bus only. There is no commuter parking at the station. Those traveling by private car enjoy quick access to the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95) in Secaucus to points north and south via the New Jersey Turnpike. State Route 3 bisects the town, with connections to US 46 and I-80 to the west and Interstate 495. I-495 begins in Secaucus and takes motorists through the Lincoln Tunnel into Manhattan and eastward to Long Island. We don't recommend using the Lincoln Tunnel during the rush hours, unless absolutely necessary. But at other times of the day it only takes about a 20 minutes to drive into Manhattan by car. Nevertheless, if you're not comfortable driving busy Manhattan streets filled with anxious pedestrians, aggressive taxi drivers, and bicycle messengers darting in and out of traffic, take public transit. Those committed to driving should know that Information is available on the web concerning current traffic conditions. The toll for a car at the Lincoln Tunnel is $8, collected New York bound only. (Frequent users may purchase an EZ-Pass for reduced tolls.) Parking fees in Manhattan can be quite high. Another word of advice: carefully read posted parking regulations. Illegal parking in New York can result in your car being ticketed, towed, and impounded at very considerable cost and inconvenience. Within Secaucus, many streets, especially near the center of the town, also have restricted parking. Note the posted parking regulations. Newark International Airport is 10 miles south of Secaucus on the New Jersey Turnpike. Travel time, under usual driving conditions, is about 20 minutes from the time you get on the Turnpike. The toll is $1.00. Taxi service to or from the airport will cost about $25-$35. Those staying in Secaucus hotels should inquire about airport service at the Hotel. Taxi service is available within the town. Fares are $2 to $4 depending on the length of trip. The taxis are not metered. Senior citizens enjoy free bus transportation within the town, provided by the municipal government. They pay half price on other public transporation in New Jersey and New York City upon presentation of a Medicare card. Although the Meadowland Sports Complex is immediately adjacent to Secaucus, there is no public transportation to the events. You'll have to drive. If you need to rent a
